Built by me, for Sam Farris
Farris Travel Banjo or Tranjo
This is from Sam Farris, the owner of the Farris Travel Banjo.
Back in 2004, I had an idea for a travel friendly banjo with a removable full-scale neck. I thought there might be a market for such an instrument, but I had no idea how to produce a quality product to sell. Jon Kammerer was the answer to my dilemma. I found his website and contacted him, and we met up in person a little later to discuss ideas and details. I showed him my crude and ugly hand made prototype and a few weeks later he provided me a precisely made, beautiful, high quality production model. The craftsmanship and fretwork were remarkable, and I knew then that I had something I could be proud of marketing. That was the beginning of the Tranjo travel banjo, and to date we have sold over 500 instruments to customers all over the world. Any time I have an idea for improving an existing design, or release a brand new model or variation, Jon makes it happen, and often provides excellent suggestions of his own. He is the perfect combination of a creative mind and a practical manufacturer of exceptional musical instruments.
The Farris Travel banjo has been one of the biggest production jobs I've done. I've actually made more banjos for Sam than I have made guitars for myself. If you are wanting to start up a company making anything, doesn't even have to be musically related, I may be able to help. I have extensive experience in design, drafting, and CNC programming. In addition to that, I have over 20 years experience in woodworking and painting.
